Community Development & Safety Services

The Community Development and Safety Services (CDSS) of the Driftpile Cree Nation represents a dynamic and integral part of our administration, dedicated to fostering a thriving community through a comprehensive suite of programs and services. At the core of CDSS are our dedicated teams, each specializing in key areas to address the diverse needs of our Nation.

Our Services

Community Navigator

The Community Navigator serves as the initial contact point for Nation members seeking guidance on questions or concerns. This role is pivotal in directing members to the right resources or departments, aiming to streamline inquiries and reduce direct approaches to our Leadership for issues that can be efficiently resolved through designated channels. The Navigator is also tasked with compiling a comprehensive resource list that benefits both on and off-reserve members, ensuring everyone receives the support they need.

The Engagement and Events Coordinator plays a key role in keeping the membership informed and engaged with the Nation’s events and programs. This position ensures event consistency across the nation and offers support in budgeting and financial accountability for these events. Utilizing various communication tools, the coordinator shares important updates and information, helping to maintain a connected and informed community.

Membership

The Membership team focuses on maintaining an accurate and up-to-date Membership list, a critical component for the Nation’s operations. This involves managing applications for Membership, guiding members through the application process, and working with the Membership Application Review Committee to ensure fair and thorough review processes. The team also supports departments in confirming membership status for service qualification and engages in initiatives to recognize and track members, particularly the youth.

The Economic Development program is dedicated to identifying and pursuing economic opportunities that align with the Nation’s interests and capacities. This includes supporting the Nation’s involvement in ventures, advising Chief and Council on potential investments, and exploring land use and business opportunities in and around traditional territories. The program also assists with grant applications and proposals to fund entrepreneurial ventures and other economic development initiatives.

This new role within the department is crucial for identifying and managing funding opportunities to support and expand community programs. The Grant & Funding Coordinator is responsible for writing proposals, managing grant applications, and ensuring compliance with funding requirements. This position plays a key role in supporting program development and community engagement initiatives by securing necessary funding.

Fire Department

The Fire Department is committed to enhancing its service capabilities through training, equipment upgrades, and certification efforts. The goal is to improve the department’s response to emergencies, including wildfires and floods, with a focus on safety and preparedness. Efforts are also made to secure funding for necessary equipment and training, ensuring the department is well-equipped to protect the community.

Security

The Security team serves as the community’s first line of defense, focusing on observation and reporting to maintain and enhance safety. The team engages in patrols, community assistance, and efforts to deter negative behaviors, striving to be a visible and positive presence within the Nation. Future goals include expanding services, enhancing community rapport, and exploring opportunities to provide security services for local events.

Web Design and Online Communications

In our continuous effort to enhance Driftpile Cree Nation’s digital footprint and communication, we’ve partnered with Cree8ive Media for our web design and online communications strategy. Owned by a proud Driftpile Cree Nation Band Member, Cree8ive Media is at the forefront of developing a more accessible, user-friendly, and engaging online presence for our Nation. This collaboration focuses on revamping our website and mobile app, ensuring that all members have easy access to vital information and services. Cree8ive Media’s expertise in digital marketing and web development plays a critical role in increasing the visibility of our Nation’s services and entities online. By optimizing our digital platforms, we aim to keep our community well-informed, connected, and actively engaged in our programs and initiatives.
