A Note from Director Karen Cunningham

Welcome to the Social Development Department, a cornerstone of support within the Driftpile Cree Nation community. Renowned for our positive influence and unwavering commitment, we pride ourselves on being approachable, accessible, and accommodating. Our ethos is built on trust and non-judgment, ensuring every interaction is marked by speed, helpfulness, and the utmost confidentiality.

At the heart of our department is a dedicated team, rigorously focused on achieving our clear objectives and expectations. We operate within well-defined roles and responsibilities, all while maintaining a unified attitude of respect and understanding towards those we serve. Our approach to communication is open, clear, and direct, underscored by a deep awareness of personal biases, emotional management, and the critical importance of language.

We are a department committed to continuous learning, adept at adapting to unique challenges, and making effective, follow-through decisions. Our awareness of the impact we have on others drives us to listen attentively to the needs of our clients and community, respond with compassion, and actively seek their input and engagement.

Our services significantly contribute to the self-reliance, health, and prosperity of our community. Those who come to us leave feeling valued, empowered, and more confident. Many find employment, and some overcome addictions. We are proud to play a role in diminishing the stigma associated with seeking help, breaking cycles of intergenerational dependency, and fostering mutual respect and trust with our community. We stand as a reliable resource, recognized for our contribution to the well-being and growth of our community members.
