Maggie Willier Wellness Centre: Public Health Team

Welcome to the Maggie Willier Wellness Centre Public Health page, serving the Driftpile Cree Nation community with a comprehensive suite of health promotion, disease prevention, wellness services, and effective management of health conditions. Our dedicated team, including Community Health Representatives (CHR) and Public Health Nursing staff, is committed to enhancing the health and well-being of our community. Embracing a holistic approach that focuses on the mind, body, and spirit, we strive to support each community member in achieving and maintaining optimal health within the supportive environment of the Wellness Centre.

Our Holistic Approach to Health

At the Maggie Willier Health Center, we believe in a holistic approach to health, emphasizing the importance of balance among the mind, body, and spirit. Our Community Health Representative’s (CHR) primary role encompasses prevention, promotion, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle within our community.

Program Components

Our health services are diverse and cater to various aspects of community health, including:

  • Healthy Lifestyles: Encouraging active living and balanced diets.
  • Maternal and Child Health: Supporting mothers and their children from pregnancy through childhood.
  • Health Screening: Offering screenings for early detection of health issues.
  • Communicable Diseases: Preventing and managing infectious diseases.
  • Chronic Conditions: Managing long-term health conditions.
  • Environmental Health: Promoting healthy living environments.
  • Injury Prevention: Reducing the risk of injuries through education and resources.
  • School Health: Supporting the health of school-aged children.
  • Elders’ Care: Providing specialized care for the elderly.
  • Nutrition: Offering guidance on healthy eating and nutrition.

Public Health Nursing

Led by Lilee Bryson, Registered Nurse, our Public Health Nursing services focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and management across all ages in our community.

What Public Health RN Offers

  • Immunizations

    Well child clinics, mass influenza and COVID clinics, school-based clinics, and safe immunizations for elders. Book immunizations by contacting the Maggie Willier Wellness Centre. Immunizations are available every Wednesday from 10-3pm (excluding holidays or days of office closure). For more details on immunizations click on link below.

  • Prenatal Screening

    Screening for communicable diseases in pregnant women and follow-ups. For more details click on link below.

  • Animal Bite Exposure

  • Infection Prevention and Control

    Ensuring safety through risk assessments, protective equipment, and education.

  • Newborn Metabolic Screening

    Screening newborns for various conditions to prevent health issues. Detailed information can be found by clicking on the link below.

Upcoming Services

Sexually Transmitted Blood Born Infection (STBBI) Education

Focused on supporting on-reserve members with education and awareness of STBBI’s along with preventing the squisition and transmission of new infections through slowing the progression of infection or disease while reducing the social and economical impact o STBBI’s and improving quality of life

Pre/Post Natal Programs

Fostering support for expectant parents and families to strengthen knowledge, and support families as they expand through providing support
o Nutrition counselling following Canadian prenatal nutrition program
o Nutrition vouchers for breast feeding families
o Pre and post-natal classes
o Breast feeding support
o The number of classes, the length, and schedule are decided on an individual basis to suit the parents’ needs.

Tuberculosis

Followed by case management with the CHR, contract tracing, preventative therapy, surveillance and screening, vaccination and education.
